NSW: Elderly deaf man jailed for girlfriend's murder
An elderly deaf man with early dementia has been jailed for 14 years for killing his girlfriend.
In the NSW Supreme Court today, Justice JOHN DOWD said there's a real risk LEO VINCENTHUNT will never walk free.
But he said HUNT's serious ill health, age and history of alcohol abuse does not detractfrom the vicious premeditated and violent murder of 55-year-old MARION LOUISE REID.
HUNT, a father of nine who turns 70 in May, had pleaded not guilty to stabbing Ms REIDto death at Uralla near Armidale in north western New South Wales on June 11, 2000.
The court was told the pair's six-year relationship had veered from being loving andaffectionate to one racked by acts of violence and aggression on both sides while theywere under the influence of alcohol.
Justice DOWD sentenced HUNT to 14 years jail with a minimum 10-year term.
